The scene at Port Authority for last evening's rush was chaos. Seems an outbound bus broke down in the tunnel. Lots of foot stamping, heavy sighs, and shocked-but-not-really-shocked expressions as people learned how far away their lines really ended.
According to Wikipedia, the Lincoln Tunnel is a mile and a half long. That's it. I find that hard to believe, as I have spent approximately eight percent of my waking life sitting in that tunnel, but it's Wikipedia, so I have to believe it. I also find it amazing that every day at least one bus manages to break down somewhere on that tiny piece of asphalt. Think about it. 1.5 miles. Foot for foot, yard for yard, that's got to be the most punishing, unforgiving stretch of road in North America.
