This is really too much. Montclair Town Manager Joseph Hartnett has emailed Baristanet this explanation as to why the town's post-storm clean-up effort sucked so badly. It boils down to something like this:
-- Even though the storm arrived exactly as forecast and evolved precisely as predicted, conditions were unpredictable and "tricky."
-- Every significant road running through the town is a county road and therefore not the town's responsibility.
-- But we've done such a good job in the past!
Yes, what gives? I thought we voted to throw the bums out, but I guess it's clear now that the current town leaders are going to be just the same kind of lackeys as the last ones were. Perhaps this round was chosen by Hartnett for their stupidity. In any case, his one-man rule of our town makes me long for the broad spectrum of thought in the USSR, c. 1934.
